Benjamin Moore IronClad Alkyd Low Lustre Metal & Wood Enamel

Protect your outside metal walls with Benjamin Moore IronClad enamel.

Although metals are generally tough and durable materials, they can rust when they are continually exposed to the elements. It is for this reason that if your house or other structures have metal outside walls, it is always prudent to protect them from possible corrosion with Benjamin Moore IronClad Alkyd Low Lustre Metal & Wood Enamel.

The IronClad enamel combines primer and enamel in a single package eliminating the need to apply a primer separately, thus saving you time and effort. It provides a tough and durable coating that assures excellent protection against oxidation.

Its adhesion to the painted metal surface is outstanding thus guaranteeing against peeling, flaking, or cracking. It can be used for painting aluminum, steel, wrought iron, and other metals. Although primarily designed for metals, it can also be used to paint wood surfaces and masonry.

As its name says, the IronClad is alkyd-, or oil-based, using soya-alkyd for its carrier or vehicle. For its pigments giving it color, it uses titanium dioxide. Volume solids are rated at 51.7%. The paint should not be thinned as it is ready for application. Do not apply paint if the temperature is either extremely hot or cold. For best results, limit painting to a temperature range of 50° to 90°F.

The paint comes in a variety of ready-mix colors as well as black and white. The white paint can also be tinted with pastel colors.

The enamel will be dry enough to touch about six hours after application, but if you want to apply a second coat, it is best to wait overnight. It is also recommended to wait 24 hours before after the last coating before putting the painted item back to full service.

As the Benjamin Moore IronClad Alkyd Low Lustre Metal and Wood Enamel is alkyd-based, you will need mineral spirits for clean-up.
